Support your Local Anything

I'm a firm believer in supporting your local businesses. If my town offers the store I refuse to go into a different branch or location. If I can by locally made goods I do. Small businesses are the backbone of our country and they only survive if we support them!

Today I went to a fantastic event put on by The Workroom and The Douglas Design District. To quote The Workroom's website...

The Workroom is a one stop shop for all your home decor needs. Providing the Wichita community with custom sewing services for window treatments, bedding, pillows and more. The Workroom also carries a selection of home furnishings and accessories, ranging from custom-made furniture to fine art. The retail shop features products made by Wichita area artists and artisans, unique vintage finds and accessories you won't find anywhere else, and custom Workroom Original products. Our goal is to offer unmatched service and quality, in an environment that offers inspiration and education.

The event held today from 10 AM - 4 PM was to celebrate their 4 year anniversary and featured booths with local handmade goods, live music, and food trucks. The photos above items sold inside The Workroom itself. Some of my favorite items were the locally themed candles (Riverside and College Hill are areas or neighborhoods in Wichita) and the bow tie dog collars.

Outside there were a variety of booths where local artists and businesses sold their goods. Below are few of my favorites.

Art of Transfoaming

Art of Transfoaming is a local (Wichita, KS) and family-owned company that sells handmade and all natural soap, lotion, lip balm and orgone art. They make their own unique formulations, using only plant and mineral-based materials. My favorite...the Rubedo which is made with red wine and shea butter.

We believe anything can be used as a tool for something greater than its common perceived use, even something as simple as soap. We decided early on we wanted to bring the mind into the use of our products- fully embracing the mind + body experience.

Son & Moon Apparel

Son & Moon Apparel is a mobile boutique carrying trendy and handmade apparel for kids. My favorites were the Wild Child shirts and the Step Brothers shirt. "Did we just become friends? Yup!"

Nectar Republic

Home fragrance brand specializing in natural candles and bath goods. Their brick & mortar mercantile carries farmhouse decor, vintage replicas, local artisan works, and painted furniture along with their core line of handmade goods. Josh Johnico

The story of Johnico is short and mostly unwritten. An artist new to oil paint but an artist with an uncompromising view as to how a painting should feel. Not defined by any ism, but molded by his surroundings. Born and raised in the mid west in Wichita, KS. Johnico's studio is a two-car garage poorly lit with inspiration found in youtube videos and cans of miller.
